Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany

Ever wanted to see the Disney castle in real life? This is it. In winter of 2015 we visited Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany. It’s the real life inspiration for the Disney princess castle. And although it looks pretty ancient, it’s actually only a couple of hundred years old.

First off, the state of Bavaria in Germany is so incredibly beautiful in its own right. Incredible mountains, lakes, forests, everything.

But a big attraction in this area is the Neuschwanstein Castle, completed in 1886, commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria. I went in winter, hoping it would be all snowy and beautiful, but sadly there was no snow!

What makes the castle really special is its location – up on a huge hill. It’s quite a hike to get to. Up there, the castle looks very impressive. And the views from the castle are pretty cool, too.
