What’s summer like in Berlin? Well, there’s a lot of sunshine. A lot of afternoons spent spread out on picnic blankets, grazing on hummus and carrots and drinking beer. A lot of visits to the many lakes around the city, to escape the heat. A lot of cycling to meet friends, to watch sunsets from rooftops or by the canal. A lot of al fresco dining, and drinking. A lot of parties on boats and disco balls reflecting shards of sunlight across our faces. A lot of watching football on big screens in parks, and piling into local pubs afterwards for one more round. A lot of this.
My friend Lottie visited from London and we wandered around Prenzlauer Berg and had a huge Aussie style breakfast at Allan’s Breakfast Club.
The girls and I took a picnic blanket and snacks to Schlachtensee on one of the hottest days of the year. We sought relief in the water, and then snacked all evening.
In Treptower park we spread out picnic blankets and food to watch the sun set over the Spree.
In Tempelhofer Feld a huge group of us gathered with American-style snacks to celebrate 4th of July, and watched the fireworks once the sun had set.
We piled everyone onto a boat with a disco ball and some tunes to celebrate a birthday.
This has been my summer in Berlin so far.
